So You Think You Can Dance?

Well, a new season of So You Think You Can Dance has finally started (wooo!!), but already, I'm a bit disappointed. I felt that the top 20 dancers chosen were very good and had already picked a favourite... and he has already been eliminated :( His partner was also eliminated, but she deserved it (she was sooo plastic). Well, now I need to find a new fave... hmm Neil and Kameron are pretty cute, but I guess Sara's routine was the best I've seen in all the seasons, so she's my new fave. I doubt she will win though, since a majority of the voting population is female... the last 2 seasons have had male winners... and this one likely will too.

David Bowie's Crotch

So I've joined an ulti team for the summer and our team name happens to be David Bowie's Crotch.. thats right.. David Bowie's Crotch..

So I asked myself.. "Why would we choose such a name?", yet I came up with no answers... I tried to find a witty/clever/ironic meaning from the phrase, yet to no avail. I then quized my team for answers.. they directed me to this webpage David Bowie's Area.

Apparentl
y his crotch is featured prominently in the movie 'Labyrinth' and well.. some people seem to have this theory that his crotch is all-encompassing... After reading the basics, I am still skeptical, however I now sorta get what my team was going for..

I still don't want a crotch on my team shirt...

Wooooo!

So completely done school for the semester... Woooooooooooooooo! Hopefully now there will be more regular postings here! Right now my marks are looking good.. although I've only gotten 2 back.. but I feel confident about the other ones...

But I still havent had a chance to breath since I was done... today I ran around all day for fashion show fittings and rehearsals and it was all downtown. I had this brilliant idea that I would park across Albert so that I wouldn't have to pay for parking... but that just ment I did so much walking.. I didn't think it would be that bad, but I was wrong! Since the weather was so nice I was working up a sweat :P.. and then I would show up all sweaty at the designers places.. ew.. not to mention embarrasing...I also made the mistake of wearing heels (not high ones mind you) but they still were killer while doing so much walking

Another exciting thing though, I have an audition for a Saskatchewan Roughrider commercial! I am really pumped for that. It would be so cool to be in.. and I can't complain about the money either :P.. cross your fingers for me!

Then off to work for Dr. Yost on May 1.... here's hoping thats good...

My front window is deadly!

Thats right.. there have been 2 bird deaths in the past couple of weeks due to the front window of my house! It is not uncommon around my house, but usually doesn't happen so frequently. I hear a thunk and when I go to check, I see a stunned bird laying in the flowerbed. Usually its moving and seem to be fine and when I go to check on it later, it has flown away (or was eaten by the roaming neighbourhood cats :P). The one in question, hit the front window yesterday, however, I thought had managed to live since when I checked back, he was gone. Turns out he had managed to flop himself underneath the fir tree (so I couldn't see him) and my dad found him when he was mowing just now :(

Did ya ever wonder....?

When I finish spellcheck/grammar check in word, it pops up with my Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level (along with all the readability stats) but I never knew what it ment.. until now. Despite not knowing what they ment, I still looked at them and rejoiced when my paper had Grade level of 12... now it actually means something to me! Check it out --> wikipedia article

Pet Peeves of a Homework Hermit

- when an article uses an abbreviation (that they apparently have defined earlier), but you can't seem to find damn spot, so you have no clue what the abbreviation stands for and are pulling out your hair trying to figure it out

- University of Regina's E-journals - Why the hell can't the U of R subscribe to full texts for articles written before 1999?

- pens that apparently dry up, yet upon disassemblage, you find that they have plenty of ink left

- profs that say they mark easy but have a list of guidelines 3 pages long!

Im sure you can see that this weekend is going just swell... bah

Painful Population Paper

So I'm doing a report on 'the maximum human population size that the earth can support', and I came accross some cool websites..... ok so maybe they just seem cool because I am pretty bored with this essay.

k ya.. so not much activity here for the past little while.. I've been swamped with homework! I did add a facebook 'badge' though, and a cute little doggie that runs at the top of my sidebar :P .. I've been on facebook a lot lately just cuz its so interactive (its a great momentary procrastination), and its fun to upload pictures.. check out the pics of the fashion show I was in last weekend.

It was at the Conexus Arts Center, and it was for the Regina Women's network. They were raising money for autism. Anyways it was really fun! I got to wear some really sweet dresses (see the pics in my facebook 'badge') and got to get all prettied up.. too bad my hair wasnt as cool as everyone elses :(... I was the first to get my hair done, so it was the most tame .. oh well...

On Saturday, I worked on a tv movie called 'Be careful what you wish for' which sounds like a '13 going on 30' clone.. but it looked cute.. I doubt it will be on Canadian tv tho.. but if it is, I will let you all know, so that you can see my best 'flirtacious' look.. the scene is where the hottest guy in school just walked into our gym class and we all just drop everything and stare/flirt :P.. it was fun, but he was soooo not hot in real life :P

this week's been a bit slacker than the last few, but still need to keep plugging away at the homework so I dont get behind again :(

Calgary Pics

Calgary trip complete

Well, this post is long overdue, since I returned from Calgary on Tuesday. But I feel like taking a break from studying so, it seems to be a good time to catch up

Trip synopsis:

Friday:
The drive down was pretty good. Drove down with Geoff, Jaime and Nadine.. always an entertaining combo. According to the highway hotline, travel was not recommended on the highways between Swift Current and the Alberta border, but the weather was beautiful and the highways were clear. A car a couple ahead of us managed to hit a dear in the middle of Swift Current. The driver got out and smashed the deer in the head a couple times with a hammer to completely kill it... I couldn't watch. Upon arriving in Calgary, we finally found our hotel after hitting every possible bit of construction around our hotel. We partied it up at 'Outlaws' which was completely dead that night, but I had a great time (probably cuz I was quite drunk).

Saturday:
Soooo wakeup to find a text message on my cell inquiring as to the wherabouts of Country. Turns out he had a bunch of shennanigans which ended in a $115 public intoxication ticket. Went shopping at Mountain Equipment Coop and bough accessories for my Nalgene bottle (I know, I'm a geek). Also, went shopping at Chinook. Went to 'Cowboys' at night after a long detour courtesy of Evan's superior navigation skillz. It was not too bad, altho a little too much country music for my liking.. and too many different types of line dances!

Sunday:
Moved into Evan and Kris' house...boy what a mess it was! Went shopping at the Le Chateau outlet. Partied the night away while watching 'Mean Girls' and 'Now and Then'... and were entertained by Evan's rendition of the Skeeter song... then attempted to sleep at 2:00 am but were kept awake till 4:00 am by Evan and his inability to quit partying (its OK Evan, I love you anyways!)

Monday:
Slept in till almost 3:00pm and then went shopping at Ikea and bought a sweet-ass cheese grater oh yea baby... love that store... then went to "Smokin' Aces" at the theatre in the Chinook mall.. very cool theatre... came home and slept

Tuesday:
Another day of driving, but this time with the equally entertaining Blair. Not nearly as eventful, we were both pretty damn tired.. but we tested our vocal talents with a lively rendition of 'Love Rollercoaster' as we traversed the many hills in Alberta. Good wheather, and good times...

Calgary

Well, I'm leaving for Calgary in a couple of hours (just over 2 hours) and I'm so excited.. its gonna be a good time.. I am very tired though, so I will hopefully do some sleeping on the way down... its nice not to have to drive.. although I may be roped into it at some point...just not in Calgary.. I don't like driving in other cities.. its too confusing

As for last night's soccer game.. I thought I had escaped unscathed, but it turns out I twisted my ankle or something cuz it hurts to put pressure on my foot.. .gah :( .. too bad we lost.. if we had won, it woulda made it worth it...

See y'all on Wednesday suckers!

Music Tests

There are some pretty interesting things you come accross when looking up information for school reports :P These test helped me to procrastinate and I'm sure will amuse you as well.. post your results if you do them!

Are you tone deaf?- I got 72.2% correct (35th percentile)... the problem I had was that the phrase was too long for me to remember it accurately! I always DID have trouble with the ear training in my piano lessons :P

Pitch Perception - At 500 Hz I can differentiate between tones 4.8 Hz apart (16th percentile)... well that wasnt very good.. I blame it on my computer speakers.. they are those really huge old kind...

Rhythm deaf?-84%.. now thats one I knew I would be good at :D

Since my last post...

Well, I havnt had much time lately to post, and I still won't have much time until Tuesday. I have a lot of homework to do.

Normally when I have homework, I become a recluse, but for this last little while, its been very hard to get into that kind of mood.. I'm kinda restless and don't really wanna do any homework, but know I should... boo for homework.. I've been trying to come up with a topic for my endocrinology (the study of hormones) report. I finally came up with one about 11:00 last night.. it will be about the affect of caffeine on calcium absorption. Its not a really exciting topic, but its passable.. but I need to have 15 references picked out by tomorrow :S eeks! I think I have a pretty good start at it, but I still have a lot of work ahead of me tonite :P...

And this weekend is not going to get much better. The good news is a midterm I was supposed to have on Tuesday has been bumped to after the break. The bad news is, its after the break.. that could potentially make 4 midterms in the first 3 days back after the break .. yikes!

I also have to find another topic (and 15-20 references) for my medical microbiology course.. havn't even started that one .. oh boy...

So thats my life right now and the reason why I havn't posted in a week.

And now.. back to work! :(

Caffeine Donuts?

While looking for an article in 'popular media' for my ecology essay, I came across this article:

Caffeine Donut Packs a Full Punch

Cool eh? Donuts and bagels with caffeine in em! The answer to my prayers for a stimulant other than coffee or energy drinks! The answer to my late night studying problem of guzzling iced tea to stay awake but having to make a trip to the bathroom every half hour!

Too bad donuts are so fattening- but then again, so is iced tea... and donuts are funner!

Jesus Christ Superstar!

Went to see the musical Jesus Christ Superstar last night and it was phenominal! I absolutely loved the movie, and the musical was the same, but better cuz it was live! Its an awesome "rock opera" with great music and "modern" touches!

The actor who played Jesus in the movie, Ted Neeley, also played Jesus in the show! Now the movie was made in 1973, and at the time, Neeley must have been AT LEAST 20, so lets add 35 years, and we get 55!! Definitely very old to be in the show, but still did an amazing job.. although you could tell he was struggling with some of the really high notes required haha!

However, in my opinion Judas stole the show! He was really good and made you identify with him! He was an awesome vocalist and actor and had sweet ass red hair.. plus his songs kicked ass!

If you havent seen the movie, you should!!

Borat Bunnies

Those of you who have seen Borat may find this video pretty cute. Its bunnies re-enacting Borat in 30 seconds. There are also some other funny re-enactments such as Brokeback Mountain and Titanic on the website.

American Idol

I'm not sure how many of you watch American Idol. I used to, but now I only have the time (and interest) to watch the first few episodes with the really bad contestants on it. This season there were some pretty funny auditions and someone had a little to much time on their hands, and looked up the myspace accounts of those people (as well as some of those going on to the next round) ... some of their myspace pages just re-iterate what losers they are, and some of them have pages that are completely normal.. haha...anyways heres the site: <American Idol Myspace Hunt>

The C- word

An interesting article on the C-word... "a word so hateful it can scarcely be uttered"

The word, my friends, is C-U-N-T. Apparently it has NINE definitions: " 'vagina', 'a contemptuous person', 'a sexually available woman', 'a foolish person', 'sexual intercourse', 'an infuriating object', 'a difficult task', 'an acquaintance', and 'a vein for drug-injecting'. " -- who knew?

Anyways, an interesting read if anyone has the time or interest heres a link to the paper: Cunt: The history of the C-word

(And just for the record, I dislike the C-word very much and am not encouraging the use of it)

Edit: the link should work now.. it does for me!

Bored

So I was a little bored tonite.. I completed a questionnaire that forecasts when you will die.. and well apparently I will live to be 85 years old.. not too shabby!

I find the disclaimer amusing though: "
Note: This is an estimate using scientific data obtained from dozens of health studies. But, keep in mind it is based on averages, and you may live many years longer than what is predicted or you may get hit by a bus and die tomorrow. Also, at some point in the future you might change your lifestyle to be more or less healthy, which would make a big difference in your estimated lifespan."

What you mean you can't guarantee that I won't die before age 85?! No kidding!!

"Scuse me while I kiss this guy"

A website dedicated to misheard lyrics and named after the supposedly most common misheard lyric from Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix <http://www.kissthisguy.com/>
Check out the funniest 250 Lyrics Page, I especially like:
5. Bryan Adams- Summer of 69

14. Robert Palmer- Addicted to Love
29. J. Geils Band- Centerfold
118. Elvis- Hound Dog
221. Michael Jackson- Smooth Criminal

Some of those lyrics are just screwed up haha.. although I can see how they might be honest mistakes.. but some of those people must have pretty sick minds.. or be on drugs :P

Harry Potter Rap

Well, this is not your average rap about Harry Potter. It starts out tame, explaining his history but soon becomes obscene... You may not understand some of the references if you haven't read the books, but it still should be somewhat entertaining for you if not hilarious! I myself, had to rewind a few times to hear parts I missed cuz I was laughing so hard! Some really good stuff there! Sometimes it takes a while to load.. wait.. its worth it!

Co-ed dorms

Co-ed dorms.. now thats a thought! I wonder why it wasn't started sooner?

"Some 20 colleges allow coed rooms. Friendships – not sexual intimacy – tend to motivate students to sign up." <more>

Pan's Labyrinth

Just heard about this movie that seems pretty cool, called "Pan's Labyrinth"

"PAN'S LABYRINTH is a fanciful and chilling story set against the backdrop of a fascist regime in 1944 rural Spain. The film centers on Ofelia, a lonely and dreamy child living with her mother and adoptive father; a military officer tasked with ridding the area of rebels. In her loneliness, Ofelia creates a world filled with fantastical creatures and secret destinies. With post-war repression at its height, Ofelia must come to terms with her world through a fable of her own creation. "

Apparently its a beautifully cinematic movie, kinda a horror/fairytale ... I think its subtitled tho :(

Anyways, check out the trailer here.
